Abstract

Threshing process of grain crops is carried out mechanically using stationary threshing machines or conventional combine harvesters in Turkey. The study involves designing, constructing and testing an axial-flow threshing unit. Momtchill wheat was used as a test material. Threshing tests on wheat were conducted with the rasp-bar type threshing unit. Feed rates, drum peripheral speeds, concave clearances and moisture of grain were selected as independent parameters. Depending on these parameters total threshing losses were determined. Using ASAE standards and the others studies. All the evaluated parameters had significant effect on threshing losses, which were between 0.368% and 1.358%.

Anonymous. 1984. ASAE Standards. ASAE S352. I. American Society of Agricultural Engineers, st. Joseph, MI, USA. losses were 0.368 % at 1250 kg/h feed rate, 30.3 m/s drum peripheral speed, 20 mm clearance and 14.85 % crop moisture content. The highest total threshing losses were found as 1.358 % at 500 kg/h feed rate, 23.95 m/s drum peripheral speed, 20 mm clearance and 11.38 % crop moisture content.

Threshing efficiency varied from 98.6% to 99.6%. Maximum threshing efficiency of 99.6% was obtained at peripheral speed of 30.3 mis, moisture content of 14.85%, feed rate of 1250 kg/h and concave clearance of 20 mm.

Total threshing losses decreased by increase in crop moisture content. Anonymous. 1999. Tarimsal Yapi COretim, Fiyat, Deger, 1995). Yayin No: 2031, DIE, Ankara.
