Abstract

A large number of parameters are to be considered while selection an appropriate irrigation method. These are soil type, crop to be grown, quality technology and financial resources, A user friendly and interactive expert system was developed for selection and design of irrigation system (SDIS), taking the above factors into consideration SDIS is based on the premise that appropriate decision in an environment of many subjective parameters depends on their combined objective assessment through a logical and step-by-step algorithm. In its present from SDIS is capable of selecting the most appropriate method of irrigation and designing it using twenty-two difference parameters. This paper discusses the development capabilities and use of SDIS
