Taraori Basmati and Basmati-370, two important paddy varieties of Haryana State, were studied for their differences in relation to physical characteristics. Higher 1000 kernel weight was recorded in Taraori Basmati (23.1g). Length of kernel was more than 7.5mm for both varieties. Both varieties were extra long; 10.85mm for Taraori Basmati and 9.69mm for Basmati-370. Slenderness ratios (L/W) for both varieties were over 3.0. Percent milled rice was around 70% for both varieties but head rice was 47% for Taraori Basmati and 56% for Basmati-370.
