Abstract

Drainage system plays an important role in providing healthy environment for maintaining inherent soil fertility and plant growth. The vertical drainage is one of the most scientific methods used in irrigated fields. In this study a digital computer modal was developed to simulate the vertical drainage of an irrigated farm to investigate the behaviour of ground water table using the techniques of systems analysis. The ground water fluctuations were observed through 17 piezometers spread over the entire farm. The model was simulated for the set of pumping rates: 7.1 hours per day and 9 hours per day, leading to the position of the ground water table at 0.39 m above and at 0.15 m below the previous year's position respectively.
