Abstract

The safe feeding chute dimensions as recommended by IS : 9129-1979 are studied and wastage of material computed as per the methods of fabrication adopted by small-scale manufacturers. The wastage of material in the case of hammer mill, drummy, syndicator and spike tooth type thresher feeding chute varies between 4.3-29%. These dimensions have been modified, without compromising with safety measures or impairing the input capacity of the thresher, and wastage reduced to less than 10%. The modified dimensions also increase the surface area receiving the crop. This will help in uniform feeding of the crop.
