Abstract

The data on replacement pattern and cost of replacement of various engine components of different power ranges of tractors of Pantnagar University Farm were collected. Five models of tractors with six tractors in each model were selected for study. The power range of tractor varied from 47 hp to 93 hp. The engine component was divided into slow replacement and fast replacement groups. Slow replacement category included cylinder head, valve guide, cylinder sleeve, connecting rod assembly, crank shaft, cam shaft, and cam shaft bearings. The fast replacement group consisted of cylinder head gasket, inlet and exhaust valve, piston, piston ring, connecting rod bush, connecting rod bearing and main bearing. From analysis of data it has been find out that the engine parts in any model of tractor were not replaced before 7000-8000 hours of use except in 76 hp air cooled tractor model in which case first replacement of piston ring, piston connecting rod bush, inlet and exhaust valve took place between 4000-5000 hours of use whereas cylinder sleeve, connecting road bearing, main bearing and valve guide were replaced between 5000 to 6000 hours of us e. Cylinder head gasket in 58 hp tractor model was replaced after 3000 hours of use whereas piston ring, piston inlet and exhaust valve was replaced after 4000 and 6000 hours of use. The frequency of replacement increased after first replacement. In all models the slow replacement components were replaced in the range of 9000-10000 hours of use in all models except 75 hp air cooled engine where these parts were replaced after 6000 hours of use.
